Karen Ferency

In 2006, while analyzing water quality data from a cubicle in Downtown Los Angeles, Karen Ferency thought, “I miss working with my hands; I miss art.” Luckily, there was a beginner pottery class along her bus route. She didn’t think twice about signing up for the class, and another, and another. For she, the potters’ wheel is meditation. Off the wheel she likes exploring different surface design techniques — she loves the contrast between carved raw clay and glazed surfaces.

She is the ceramics specialist at an overnight camp and lead clay exploration class in elementary school aftercare.
