Gay Morton

Knoxville Native, Gay Morton began working in glass twenty plus years ago. Her life in a family of makers goes back for generations and exposed her to the fine regional crafts and different media that shaped who she is. The freedom to appreciate and explore copious art material had a lasting impact.

She studied at the University of Tennessee, lived in Charleston, S.C. and Washington D.C., and returned to Knoxville to teach. Teaching environmental education was one of her true loves; therefore, both natural and man-made worlds impact her art.

She currently builds organic forms from inorganic materials and works within the possibilities of found objects. She finds a certain satisfaction in finding potential in the discards of our society and the emotional and visual response it elicits.
